Yellow-Headed Blackbird

In this oil painting of a yellow-headed blackbird I used purples and blues to capture the black of the bird’s body.

I spotted this bird in Sierra Valley (northern California) while birding. It sat on a reed for a long time giving me a chance to both photograph and sketch it.
