California Street

This city view is from the vantage point of looking up California Street from downtown San Francisco.

The painting was done with a palette knife in hues of orange, blue, yellow, and red blended together in thick layers of paint.

There are many beautiful textures and subtle colors in this work.

I was interested in the positive shapes of the buildings against the negative space of the sky,

It was a challenge to find the best balance of color and value as any one change in color to one shape would affect all the others.

I was exploring balance and harmony within color, shape and form.
