Red Sky, Financial District

I used cold wax and oil paint to create a thick impasto. for this series (5 in all). Using mostly a palette knife I painted these large canvases with sweeping bold color.

This one is the view looking west on California Street.

I was interested in the positive shapes of the buildings against the negative space of the sky, (the green shape).

These were also color studies as any one change in color of one shape would affect all the others.

I was exploring balance and harmony within color, shape and form.
