Snow Day Juncos

The juncos really come out in bad weather. In this oil painting I combined sketches of different juncos and put them into one composition.

I had recently bought a tube of Williamsburg “Egyptian Purple” that has specks of bronze iridescence in the paint.

It is a rich purple and I knew I wanted to use it for the juncos even though in reality juncos have black hoods.
