Description of Woodpecker Commune

This encaustic (wax and pigment) work was inspired by the acorn woodpecker. I remember watching an acorn woodpecker through my studio window, for most of the afternoon it went back and forth. Now I realize it was probably more than one!
Their red cap is very bright and looks like a baret.
The work is custom framed with a solid redwood frame and the artwork is “floating” in that none of the edges are covered.
