Financial District – San Francisco

I used cold wax and oil paint to create a thick impasto for this series (5 in all). Using mostly a palette knife I painted these large canvases with sweeping bold color.

This one is the view from Montgomery Street looking west, up California Street.

I was interested in the positive shapes of the buildings against the negative space of the sky, (the green shape).

It was a challenge to find the best balance of color and value as any one change in color to one shape would affect all the others.

I was exploring balance and harmony in color, shape and form.
